There has been a phenomenal growth in interest and creation of skincare items that promise smoother, more glowing, and more even skin.

But there are some skin issues that toners, moisturizers, and serums can’t address. Things like fine lines and wrinkles, which are brought on by the natural aging process need an approach that goes beyond the topical.

For those who want results that last for months at a time, with less maintenance, and virtually no downtime, then Botox injections might be the treatment for you.

WHEN TO CONSIDER BOTOX INJECTIONS

You can be considered an ideal candidate for Botox injections if you match the following criteria:

  • Wrinkles are found in areas that can be treated with Botox injections (e.g., around the eyes, on the forehead, the length of the neck).
  • Have realistic expectations about the procedure

When it comes to age, most Botox patients feel that they’re in need of the treatment and some start as early as in there 20’s. Gender-wise, both women and men can benefit from this treatment.

WHAT TO EXPECT WITH BOTOX INJECTIONS

Procedure may take 15-30 min. Each patient is different and it depends on the patient’s area of concern. The amount of units will be discussed by the provider.

RISK & SIDE EFFECTS OF BOTOX INJECTIONS

Minimal pain and slight bruising are par for the course and the latter should last only for a few days at most. Our team also recommends that patients refrain from rubbing or putting pressure on the injection sites to prevent the migration of Botox to other parts of the face. This may cause temporary weakness and drooping on the affected areas.

But as a patient, you should be aware of these side effects — should they occur, even if rare:

  • Temporary facial weakness or drooping beyond the site treated
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Redness

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How does Botox work?

Botox injections contain botulinum toxin type A which is a muscle relaxant. They disable muscles from contracting, which in turn reduces the look of fine lines and wrinkles.

How is Botox given?

It’s given through a very fine needle and in pre-measured units or dosages. It’s also concentrated, so only a small amount needs to be injected as needed. Because of these, Botox injections are tolerated well by most patients.

Where is Botox usually placed?

Typically, Botox smoothes wrinkles on the forehead, frown lines between the eyebrows, crow’s feet on the sides of the eyes. Still, other patients also use it to reduce their bunny lines or wrinkles around the nose bridge and kisser’s lines or around the mouth when making the “O” sound.

How often will I need to do Botox?

A treatment can see results last from 3 to 4 months. As soon as lines and wrinkles start to reappear, you can come back for your next session. Within a year, two to three sessions are deemed reasonable.
